Finding Balance Within: Simple Practices to Reconnect with Your Inner Peace

In our fast-paced, always-on world, finding “balance” within our lives can often feel unachievable. But the idea of everything being in balance isn’t about achieving a so called “perfect state” where everything feels exactly as it should; what’s more realistic, is tuning into what our mind, body, and soul need at any given moment. By cultivating small, intentional practices, we can create a sense of inner peace that supports our overall well-being, a state where things start to feel more in balance within our inner and outer world.

I’ve listed here a number of practices and concepts that I personally incorporate throughout my days and weeks. You may or may not already incorporate them, or perhaps this will serve as a gentle reminder for you to get back into it. I believe that taking actions from these ideas, truly are foundations to our wellbeing and each of them are known for helping most people find greater peace and balance within their days.

Start with Stillness

Finding more inner peace begins with stillness. Allow yourself a few minutes each day to pause and reconnect with your breath. Whether it’s through meditation, gentle stretching, or simply sitting in silence, this moment of quiet can help you reset and ground. Stillness gives the mind a break from the constant chatter and creates space for clarity and calm to emerge. It’s in these moments of stillness that we can better understand our needs and priorities. If you feel like you don’t have time for stillness, consider creating the time for it - in between tasks, a few minutes before getting up or going to sleep, pausing before getting out of the car etc. There is always time to be found and used for stillness.

Listen to Your Body’s Wisdom
Our bodies are wise, constantly sending us signals about what they need. Notice how you feel after certain activities or interactions. Are you energised or drained? Begin to honour those feelings by choosing actions that align with your energy. For example, if a social event leaves you feeling depleted, prioritise quiet time the next day to recharge. Your body’s cues are invaluable in guiding you toward an optimised state of wellbeing. By paying attention to these signals, you are building a trusting relationship between your mind and body. Building this internal trust muscle helps the body know that rest will be honoured when it’s needed, therefore sending a message of safety, rather than alarm bells which can present as symptoms of exhaustion and other.

Align with Your Values

When we live out of sync with our values, stress, frustration and even anxiety can follow. Take time to reflect on what matters most to you. Are your daily actions aligned with those priorities? If not, consider small shifts that can bring you closer to living in harmony with your truth. For instance, if creativity is one of your core values but your schedule lacks time for hobbies, dedicate even 15 minutes a day to activities that bring you joy and fulfilment. Living in alignment with your values can have a profound impact on your emotional and physical health.

Practice Gratitude

A simple yet powerful practice for greater peace is cultivating gratitude. Take a moment each day to acknowledge the things you’re thankful for. I know it’s difficult at times when everything is extremely challenging, but even in the most horrible circumstances, gratitude can be found. Focusing on or simply noting one or a few things that are going well, shifts the focus from what’s missing to what you have, which helps in alleviating stress. Gratitude has the power to reframe our perspective, offering us insights into the ways we are being supported that we might not have noticed previously. We can still acknowledge the difficulties we are experiencing while also being grateful for what is there for us.

Create Rituals for Renewal

Incorporating small daily or weekly rituals can serve as anchors, helping us return to a place of balance when life feels overwhelming. A ritual can be choosing one or a few things that are simple activities, offering you a sense of calm. What works for one person, may not for another, so it really is an individual journey to figure out what’s best to incorporate. Whether it’s a morning cup of tea in silence, an evening walk, or journaling your reflections from the day; intentionally including a ritual provides a sacred pause—an enjoyable or calming moment, it is a chance to check in with yourself and reset. These moments don’t have to be elaborate, but something that is meaningful and enjoyable to you.

Nourish Yourself Holistically

The foods we eat, the media we consume, and the relationships we nurture all contribute to our overall well-being. Choose foods that support your energy, seek out inspiring and uplifting content, and surround yourself with people who make you feel safe and valued. The more we nourish ourselves holistically, the more peacefulness we will feel. If you’re feeling anxious and over stimulated, consider the things that you are consuming, and if they are a match to the mood or state you want to be in. Ask yourself if any foods, relationships or media consumption might need a break or could be shifted to offer more light nourishment. Sometimes we don’t know how much something is weighing us down until it’s removed.

Embrace Imperfection

As I mentioned earlier, balance isn’t about getting everything ‘just right’— that would be unrealistic. Balance is about learning to flow with life’s rhythms, and figuring out what works for us to do so. Some days we will feel grounded, while others we may feel chaotic, and that’s okay. Instead of striving for perfection, embrace flexibility and remember to practice self-compassion. We can’t do it all and we shouldn’t expect ourselves to. Be kind to yourself when things aren’t “right” or different decisions “should” have been made. Trust that each moment is an opportunity to recalibrate, as we are forever learning and forever growing.

By weaving small and intentional practices into your life, you might be surprised at what shifts and how balanced you begin to feel. Every persons version of living with inner peace and balance is different. If you’d like to explore this further, it’d be my pleasure to support you in my private sessions.
